Hamnet is one of those books that if someone told you the plot you might look at them cross eyed (like Lincoln in the Bardo) but is so perfectly written that it seems it was always meant to be.

Happiest birthday fellow Piscean! Getting emotionally punched in the throat is just right for this season so I love that you mood read yourself into the sign of the deep feels.

I too came late to the Didion train which led me to the Eve Babitz of it all. Have you gone the Eve route? She’s a delightful essay corollary to Joan.

Happy birthday! Hamnet is one of my all time favorites, and I highly recommend delving into Maggie O’Farrell’s backlist. But more importantly, have you heard about the upcoming Hamnet film, directed by Chloe Zhao with Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley?!

Happy Birthday! There’s some absolute bangers in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, too, FWIW.

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say I love your writing! I look forward to everything you put out there. I’m ashamed to admit that I’m too cheap to subscribe - which I’m sure is not just worthless to you but also infuriating. Nevertheless - I want you to know I think you’re wonderful
